Birth control question

I have been on birth control for quite a while but i have just now started to think about this. Ever since I started the pill, my periods did not come during the placebo week like most women's do. Mine come during the first week of the pack, and they always have. Is this normal? Does this change the effectiveness of the pill in any way?
