Pain meds before HSG?

I am reading an HSG test can be painful. Did anyone take pain meds beforehand? If so what did you take? I'm super nervous for it

I took ibuprofen and paracetamol before my hsg, still hurt like a bitch! (It's very quick though) But i now have an 8 month old daughter 😍

I had mine a year ago or so and at the time had read it was painful. For me I just thought it was a bit uncomfortable. I did not take pain meds. I guess it depends on your pain tolerance and or maybe the person performing the test? Good luck!

My dr had me take 800mg of ibuprofen. They also offered a Valium before hand to help relax your body and uterus. But I don't know if all clinics do that. It is definitely not a fun procedure, but it is quick. And I didn't have any pain after it was done except for very very mild cramping. I didn't need anything for pain after the procedure was over. Ok I have an update on the HSG. I took 800mg of ibprofen an hour before. It was not painful for me at all. It really was just like a PAP. When they put in the cathader and blew up the small balloon it was very minimal pain. When they put in the dye, I barely felt it I had to ask the doctor if the dye was going through. My period cramps are way worse than what I felt in the HSG. My tubes were clear, no blockage :)

My doc and the paper work recommended four Advil an hour before.  I took two.  They talked it up like it was going to be really painful and got me super anxious and then wouldn't start the procedure until I relaxed since my muscles down there were so tense. It was not bad at all.  Everyone once in a while I had minor cramps, and they couldn't get the catheter through my cervix so they had to dialate my cervix.  Honestly, my period cramps are worse.  Lol

I had the hsg done and there was cramping but it wasn't bad. I didn't need to take anything. Good luck I hope you get good results!

Mine wasn't really painful, awkward as heck! I had mild cramping.. I compared it to a pap on steroids! Lol

Yes I took 800mg of ibuprofen! I was in a little pain but honestly it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!
