First birthday party...

My son is turning 1 next month on the 27 but doing his birthday party on the 17 of September. My husband wants to do a big birthday party for him which I understand since he is our first baby. But we are planning to do it at my dads house since his yard is bigger than ours. I was just wondering if you ladies threw a big party for your little ones or Jair brought them a cake and just invited close family members.
