How often does your baby poo???

My baby is nearly 4 weeks old and about 10 days ago, he went from 7/8 poops a day to going between 24 and 48 hours without pooing. He's so uncomfortable and obviously in pain. Been to doctor but he just said its common in newborns. He's not constipated as poo is still runny/yellow - sorry for TMI! I hate seeing him in pain. Doc said to give him warm water every 6 hours but I don't know if it's helping. He was originally breastfed but we're now on formula. The change in milk could be the problem but has anyone else experienced this? I'm desperate to help him 😭

That is normal to be pooping like that. There's no rule that says they have to poop all the time, though mine does anyway lol. Anyway it might be gas causing him pain and not the pooping. Make sure you burp him when he eats and try sitting him up a bit or lifting his butt up when he gets gassy to see if it helps get it out easier

My son got so constipated when I gave him formula but I'm Breastfeeding my daughter and she poops a lot through out the day. My doctor said formula constipates newborns and its normal and breastfeeding makes newborns poop a lot which is normal .

4-6 weeks is when they start regulating to 1-2 BMs per day from anywhere between 10 a day to once in 10 days, so it sounds normal. Try warms baths to help him get comfortable, belly massage, bicycle legs, rectal stimulation if you think his discomfort is really poo-related.
