How Important Is it???

My LO is 4 months old and we will be christening him soon. So my question is how important is it to select god parents. I had bad experiences with both my god parents that my mom and dad selected for me as a child and to be honest they never really did anything for me growing up and not to mention I don't have any close friends that I see fit to select for this role in my child's life.

* So is this a bad thing for my child to not have God parents?

I don't even know my god parents so unless you have a really great, solid friendship with a couple of someones and want honor them in that way I'd say it's not really that important.

We just baptized our son last weekend and in our religion we have to have at least one godparent. I think it all depends on your religion but if you don't have to have them nor want them then go for it!

I think the importance of it depends in your religion. I also feel like godparents are a ceremonial thing, as I have never known of any who actually guide the children as they should. My three siblings and I have barely had any contact with any of our godparents.

We just baptized our son yesterday. In our church we don't do godparents. However my husband and I discussed it is important to decide on and get in writing who we'd like to raise our son if anything were to happen to us. Its awful to think about and most likely nothing you'll have to worry about but personally I just want all my bases covered if the worst were to happen.
