Conceiving with an irregular period

I have very irregular periods... I can go months without having one, I've been off of birth control for a while now but every time I go off of birth control my periods go MIA. I was just wondering if anyone concieved naturally and didn't have regular periods like me or if they had to do something for it, if you had to do something for it what did you do?
