How quickly can you dilate?

Hi everyone, I'm a first time mom- 38 weeks 5 days due August 31st. I just had the doc check and I'm not dilated at all. I was hopeful because I've been having mild cramping and BH contractions for 2.5 weeks now but they're irregular. How quickly can your body progress to dilate? Is it something that happens overnight or does it take time? I'm thinking my baby girl is gonna be a september baby 😫

I went from 0 to 10 in less than 1 and a half hours. Baby boy was in a rush! It'll happen 😄 good luck xx

I read that first time mom's will often efface first and then dilate. Whereas others might dilate while they efface leading up to labor. I wish we could give you a clear answer. This guessing game sucks! 😐

I'm due the same day as well! I left the doctor yesterday crying my eyes out! I am 2cm dilated and 50% effaced, but I have been for three weeks now! Not to mention, I've had my membranes stripped three times as well, and still nothing. I reallyyyy don't want a September baby!

When I got induced with my son I was 3 cm dilated! They started my iv at 830 in the morning I was a full 10 and pushing by 215 and had him at 230 in the afternoon! Not everyone dilates quickly or even dilates at all but I got lucky with both my children my labor went very fast!

I'm 40w5d, and was maybe a 1cm dilated on Friday (dr compared opening to the tip of his pinky). I've come to the conclusion that I really don't care what day our baby girl gets here as long as she's happy and healthy. Just try to keep calm :)

I'm also do the 31st and my cervix is closed and I am showing no signs of my little one being here any time soon. My next appointment is her due date and hubby has to work 😳 hoping she comes before then.

It can happen overnight. I was 1 centimeter the night before I went into labor. I was 3 at 6 am when I went in. Progressed to 6 quickly. Less than 24 hours of labor, so I went from 1 to 10 in about 18 hours. 3 to 10 in about 12.
