39 week appointment

My 39 week appointment is coming up on Thursday. Yay!🎉💙 But my OB-GYN said she won't check if I'm dilated until I'm 40 weeks. 😔 I'm so anxious to know! I know that you can stay dilated for a while until baby is ready. I just want to know I'm making progress though. Is it normal to not get checked until 40 weeks? I feel like I've been waiting forever to get checked! I also had a dream my baby was 9.8lbs..😳 I'm crossing my fingers that isn't true! He'll be one big baby to push out!
