Baby is either crying, sleeping, or eating. No awake time?

Question

My 1 month old is very colicky and cries all the time. I just switched formulas so hopefully that helps but he never has any awake time.. this is my first baby so Im not sure whats normal. He eats every 2 hours then cries for like 20min-1hour and Im spending that whole time trying to calm him , he'll stop for a few moments then starts again. Then he eventually will fall asleep. Then the whole thing starts all over again. Im worried he isnt awake and alert for enough time. Should i make an appt with the doctor?

Not sure if it's changed but formula fed infants feed every 4 hours and breastfeed infants every 2 hours. He/she could be extremely gassy. With my first son I formula fed for the 1st month while I worked on producing enough milk. He was always crying very cranky I tried everything including taking him to the doctor and extra burp time. He didn't change till I took him off and used breastmilk 100%. He was completely different he slept and never really cried. Some babies could also be allergic to certain formulas. Guess try and dabble around it talk to your pediatrician about alternatives to help. 😊

My one month old isn't colicky but all she does is sleep. I read that an average NB will sleep up to 17 hours a day. Which leaves just enough time to be awake while eating X amount times in a 24 hour timespan.

Apart from the crying that sounds normal. I'd see a doctor incase it's reflux. 
Babies don't really have any significant awake time until they're two months old*
At five weeks I would put baby under the play gym for her tiny amount of awake time.
