Breastfeeding for 6 months?

Can someone please tell me what it means when some moms say I plan to only breastfeed for 6 months? What do u do for the remainder of the year? Just give them formula? Once the baby gets 6 months is breast milk not important  anymore?  I  understand babies can start eating food at 4-6 months but do babies not need milk until the age of 1? 🤔

I only breastfed my son for 3 months then switched to formula. He was already being supplemented so for me I couldn't keep up with his feedings. So far I have EBF my daughter for 4 weeks, and my short term goal is 6 months. I *want* to make it to a year, but it is a trying process since she gets frustrated when she's gassy and has trouble latching. And it seems as though anything I put in my body gives the poor girl gas. With formula I knew how much my son was eating and with breastfeeding I'm worried she isn't getting enough. So far she seems to be gaining weight fine but it's always a nagging thought at the back of my mind. I'm trying so hard this time around to do what's the very best for her instead of what's easier for me. I wish I had kept trying with my son, but it's in the past.

They would give formula after that. Babies need some kind of milk for the first year. Breastfeeding is hard and time consuming so different women decide to stop at different times

Planning to breast feed for "x" months is a goal. Breastfeeding is hard. Very hard. Very very hard but with a goal in mind it's a bit more achievable. Yes, they do start food at 4-6ish months but their main source of nutrition for the first year is milk. Wether formula or breastmilk. Foods before 1 are more so to introduce different textures and tastes. So if you breastfeed for "x" months the remaining is formula.

Babies need milk until the age of one. And for most moms, once you get through the first few months it gets way way easier, so a lot of women won't bother to quit (like me - I'd never quit now, I have free easy food for baby!). But some women just want to drink alcohol or have their boobs back or go out without baby or all sorts of other things so they switch to formula once they've done "enough" time breastfeeding.
