3 weeks late- advice please

Almost 3 weeks late but had blood HCG levels tested a week after I was late and it came back negative. Never missed or had an irregular period.  Has this ever happened to anyone? What was the outcome? I've been on bc for 8 years and was planning to stop this month so I stopped when I realized was late.
