nexplanon

Recently, I got the nexplanon implant in my arm because my long term boyfriend and I have decided we don't want kids for the next three years. Also I've expressed that I dislike the feel of condoms and thought that in getting birth control maybe we could have sex without a condom but my boyfriend absolutely refuses, he's been my only sexual partner in almost a year and I was just screened for STI's so we know I'm clean. He claims its bc of the .1% that birth control isn't 100% effective. How do I get what I want without bending his will or upsetting him?
