Today my Dr explained why they monitor GD in people with borderline numbers. He said GD causes baby to grow big (we know) but also causes the placenta to wear out faster and baby's lungs develop slower. Lungs are some of the last things to get functional in the womb. So he said GD can cause a weird issue- baby is big and ready to be born cause placenta is small but lungs are not done! He said you can go through NICU and see big 8-10lb babies on breathing support cause their lungs didn't develop due to GD. 😳😰 I am sufficiently motivated to keep monitoring my sugars.
