Old enough to "cry it out"?

When my DS was 1 month old, my pediatrician said my son was spoiled and to let him "cry it out". When is a baby old enough to "cry it out"?

Until a baby has the capacity to self-soothe, cry it out does not work and crying for long periods just causes distress for the baby. Sometimes you need to put a crying baby down for a few minutes to use the restroom or take a breather if you're getting frustrated, but 'cry it out' meaning let baby figure out how to soothe themselves is way too early at 1 month. I didn't start any kind of sleep training involving crying until my kids were mobile, around 6 or 7 months, after they had other soothing techniques like pacifier, stuffed animal, etc and could change positions on their own if they were uncomfortable.

Mom to mom, I know what 'research' says and what doctors talk about but being 'spoiled' under a year old is NOT a bad thing. I'm pregnant with number 7. I had 5 under 5 at one point and had no CHOICE but to let them 'cry it out' at times. I truly regret it. The more a baby is tended to and loved, the more secure he/she feels and honestly, I don't see any reason for crying it out unless YOU have a reason. I mean, like if you're busy with something, they can fuss a few minutes but I will (again, after 6 other kids-not a newbie lol) 
SPOIL THE MESS out of this baby! 😁😁😁 By a year to 18 months, they start to test you and then should have some boundaries set but your child should ALWAYS be your top and first priority and it makes them feel protected to know mommy will drop everything and love them up. (I will STILL do that with the older ones- drop what I'm doing and just hug or talk to them- ages 8-15)

I think you can sleep train at 4-6 months. Our ped recommends it. Not every parent is ok with it. But hey, some parents sleep with their kid until that kid can walk so ask a professional not random people you might not share parenting style ideas

I don't think one month is old enough… I would not even try extinction until six months or older, and even then I would have a hard time using that method. I personally never have. I used the Ferber method with progressive timed checks.

Not at a month. It's around 6 months that they start to realise "hey if I cry I get attention" and start to use that. Babies are very very smart and often not given enough credit for that. 
So about 6 months is when you typically start the cry it out. But don't let it go to long. I gave my.god daughter 10 min max and I think I only needed to go in and adjust her twice in the 2 years I was using it. (Check her diaper, give her a few min of extra cuddles, find the passy she threw. Ect.)
