Would you do a Membrane Sweep?

My doctor said at my next appointment (tomorrow) they can do a membrane sweep if I would like one. I will be 38 weeks 5 days. I've never had one before and it makes me slightly nervous. What are your opinions on getting one done?

I had it done yesterday at 39wks. I was dilated 1cm so my Doctor decided to sweep me. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between her doing the cervical check and the membrane sweep. It was uncomfortable but not painful. Since then I've had lower back pain and cramping off n on. And today after walking at the park I noticed that I lost my mucus plug. Seems promising, we'll see what happens. Like the previous posters said it helps push things along if your body is ready, if not nothing will happen.

Got one done today at 38 weeks. Didn't ask for it, but because of the pelvic pressure and pain, he checked dilation and swept.

There is no guarantee that it will do much of anything. But if the baby is ready to get moving on out, it can help stimulate labor.

It's a little uncomfortable but if you're ready to see if your labor will start moving along then I would do it
