am I spoiling my baby?

I work at a day care and my 3 month old just started going there. They said I need to stop holding him and comforting every time he cries but other parents/my doctor said it's too early to spoil him and that he can never get too much love. So many people have different opinions on this.. Idk what to do. I just feel bad if I leave him laying there crying... But I don't wanna make him spoiled at the same time.. Thoughts?

Babies cry for a reason- it's their form of communication. If the baby needs you to hold him then hold him comfort him. Also I do not believe in cry it out either - I think it's cruel when they are babies.

You do what you feel is right. He is your son. He is crying for a reason. You can't spoil an infant, they don't know the meaning of or implications of what it means for mommy to pick them up, other than they are being comforted.

Historical background: Anna Freud worked with orphans during WWII and realized that the babies who were being held and comforted and not just having their basic needs met were surviving at an alarming rate compared to the others who's basic needs were being met. At first they thought it was because the first infants mentioned were sturdier, but Anna realized it was the affection and interaction that kept them healthy and happy. (BA in psychology)

So please don't let people think you're spoiling your son, those people don't know him and his needs. You're doing great mama.

First you have to teach him you're reliable. So yeah, go right ahead and pick him up all the time. He doesn't know anything about how the world works. You have to teach him that mom will (eventually) always show up. I carry my baby all the time and pick her up any time she cries. She's five months old now and doesn't mind if I'm gone for awhile because she's pretty sure I'll come back.

Is this taken out of context? Did they maybe say you're spending way too much time focusing on your baby, instead of every baby, as may be per your job?
