Enema before induction?

Okay so I am a ftm, going in tomorrow night to be induced and I just got word that I have to insert an enema upon arrival at l&d. I had to look up what it was and now I am terrified. Even more so than the actual process of giving birth I think 😂 Anyone have any advice or anything to ease the discomfort I am feeling about this right now? Lol! Is it really that bad? & is it necessary?

No enema with either of my pregnancies. I know this use to be standard practice way back when. I guess I never knew it was still practiced.

They used do that in the UK years ago but not anymore. I didn't think it was common practice anywhere anymore

I didn't know that was ever requested 🤔 but it's super easy and no big deal, once you've squirted the bottle you just wait a few minutes and you'll get the urge to 💩💩 kinda like when you have diarrhea, and you might be slightly crampy too. I highly reccomend doing it really close to the bathroom, because the walk to the toilet can be uncomfortable and you'll feel like you might crap your pants lol! Only because all the fluid is waiting to be evacuated. And if you've been constipated you'll def feel a lot better after! 😂

Thanks yall! You are making me feel a little better about it.. I am just super nervous about inserting it myself and possibly doing it wrong or hurting myself. I've never had anything go in that end before so it's very awkward to think about 🙈

I don't think they can make you do that so there for if you don't feel comfortable j would just tell them that's something you don't want to do ! If you have been constipated that might be a good idea but other wise no ! Just my personal opinion tho !

Weird. Why do you have to have an enema? I was induced without one.

I'm thinking of asking to do that! They say it helps you a lot the first time you go after birth which can be very painful and better chance of not going while giving birth.

I plan on doing this before I deliver so I don't poop when I'm pushing.
It's super easy, don't even worry.

That is really odd and NOT standard practice. I can't believe they are telling you that you have to do an enema. Most places won't do it even if you request it.
