Mirena or no Mirena after pregnancy?

pregnancy?" /> My doctor suggested the Mirena, but I am not sure if I want it anymore. I'm practicing abstinence now, and I don't want my milk supply to go down because of hormones. Also, the only reason I wanted it was to help with my period, but I haven't really had one because of breastfeeding anyway. What do I do?

Mirena is made with progesterone, which doesn't affect your milk supply. If you have bad periods, I definitely would recommend it, as it's the only birth control approved by the FDA to treat heavy periods. 20% of women with Mirena have no period at all, and most women have shorter, lighter periods because of it.

I don't know you or your stance on anything but Mirena is an abortive form of birth control. As in, you can conceive but Mirena prevents the baby from attaching to the uterus. I am nursing as well. We opted for condoms.

I haven't had children, but there used to be nonhormonal implants. In any case, if your periods become a problem then you could always get it later. For now, abstaining or using condoms would be my advice in the interest of breastfeeding.
