Cerclage(Incompetant Cervix)

Brenda
Hey ladies so I just confirmed my pregnancy today I'm 5 w and 6 days and I'm due December 17th. My first pregnancy resulted in a loss of twins at 21 weeks and the doctors best guess was an Incompetant cervix. He said I will need to put a cerclage in at 14 weeks. I just wanted some opinions and experiences shared if anyone has ever had this? Thank you again.

Hi Brenda, i havent been through this but my mom did in order to have me :) she lost a baby boy around 20 weeks also. She told me she got this procedure done and her doctor also told her to rest for most of her pregnancy. Wish you the best!

I have actually just had my cerclage put in. I previously had two miscarriages and they found out a little late that I had an incompetent cervix so this time around we were proactive. My surgery last about 20 minutes and I'm still recovering at home but pain, bleeding and cramps were minimal. Best thing you can do for yourself is rest, by rest I mean TRULY REST. Do nothing if you can get away with it because it has helped me a lot. I had to get mine at 14 weeks and am now 15 weeks. God bless you and your baby!

I had it done, bed rest for 2 days rest of the week I was a couch potato per dr! When u go in they do an epidural I believe then the actually surgery only takes about 20min. Slight bleeding later in the day but stops! No sex nothing inserted vaginally for the rest if Ur pregnancy! I will be getting my 3cerclage here in 2wks I'll be 13wks along!

OMG I literally just asked the same question, my situation is a bit different, I've never been pregnant but had a trachelectomy and have basically no cervix left, the MFM dr wants to put a TAC at 12-14 weeks but I don't know anyone who had his done! I hope it goes great for you, I did find a blog that describes the procedure very well,  http://hopefulmomma.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-trans-abdominal-cerclage-tac.html?m=1 that's the link, I hope it helps!
