Do you trust your doctor?

I have had bad experiences with doctors and modern medicine. When you think of it amoxicillin has only been around since the 60s so our way of medicating is fairly new. I value the opinion of a doctor since they have studied and went to school but I do not 100% trust them.

Cars have also only been around for a little over 100 years... Can we trust them not to just stop working? How can I trust a mechanic to fix my car?

Science/technology makes improvements in huge leaps and bounds. It's thanks to doctors and medicine that I'm alive and able to enjoy life (I have lupus controlled through daily intake of meds)

Penicillin, which is the main ingredient in amoxicillin, has been used since 1942. Before that it was tested for years, we know an awful lot about medicine now, especially things like penicillin. I trust the knowledge we have about drugs. I underwent a treatment for hepatitis C with a new combination of drugs. I was the first "healthy" person to be treated with this combination, and it brought my viral load down to 0 in two weeks. Medicine is amazing. I wouldn't trust doctors opinions so much in the US, as I believe that they're only out to make money, and the pharmaceutical companies are only interested in money. It's pretty different over here in the UK.

Yes I trust mine. He does this wonderful thing called listening to me.

I went in for what I thought was an ear infection, it turned out that my ears were pressurizing and depressurizing at the wrong times. Told me to take a decingestant if the pain got bad and chew gum.

He also has been my doctor for 22 years so there is a level of trust there.

I went to school with half the people I work with. No, I don't trust them because I had at least half the same classes and learned how to deal with patients. Going to a doctors office is like trying to ask a financial aid office for help to me, in that you have to have prior background knowledge and ask the right questions most of the time.

Don't ever limit yourself to one doctor because he/she is your family doctor or you think they have the best reviews btw.

I trust them to give me a diagnosis if I need one or life saving surgery. 
Beyond that, it's statically safer to avoid them altogether.

I voted yes but I think it all depends on the situation as well. Doctors go to medical school to study medicine. They get kick backs from pharmaceutical companies for prescribing medication so of course that's the first thing they are going to suggest when you have an ailment. It's all up to you whether you want to trust the judgement of your doctor 100%, no matter what, or trust your doctor but do your own research as well. Antibiotics are prescribed all too often anymore when sometimes you just need to let the illness run its course. Obviously if we're talking about a little baby or a child with a high temperature, we can't be complete morons and hope it goes away on its own. All that said...I trust my doctor and his intelligence but have also educated myself over the past few years and know what's best for my family and I.

I trust them to a reasonable degree, but not implicitly. I believe all humans, regardless of profession of skills level can be misguided or mistaken.

I 100% trust my doctor. I had originally signed up with a new ob when I got pregnant (I had heard horror stories about my previous doctor). Well long story short I hadn't even met my new doctor yet (only the nurse) and I had a miscarriage. My new doctor wasn't on call that day so one of the others was who saw me. There are three of them in this office and they all work together. So I literally met this doctor during my miscarriage. She was so amazing and did all she could to make me as comfortable as possible. Needless to say I immediately asked if I could be her patient moving forward. Now with this pregnancy I am 14w3d. I've already had two ultrasounds and was put on progesterone from weeks 4-10 because mine was low. Everything is going great so far because she kept an eye on me from the beginning. You just have to find someone you are comfortable with and who can put your mind at ease. I will never switch doctors again.
