Is this how this works?

Question

My period is a week away and eve said my fertile week was last week and my husband and I had unprotected sex purposely today in hopes of getting pregnant. Will a week be enough time to tell if It actually worked? What if my period still comes?

In theory, if you have periods that are 28 days long in cycle, the counting starts on the first day of bleeding, so that's day 1.  14 days in is when your fertile window starts. Not meaning you necessarily ovulate then, just that sperm can live for about three days and need to travel to meet egg. If you were at the end of the window before you had sex, the egg may have died before they met. Personally, with my oldest, I had a couple days of implantation bleeding about a week prior to my scheduled period. You won't get a period if you're pregnant and not an anomaly.

I suggest looking up info on natural family planning. There's so much you'll learn about your body to tell you when you're ovulating, like the mucus in your vagina and such. Made getting pg with my second a breeze, first try.
