Tbh.. it sounds like insecurity.. and instead of him saying " baby, im intimidated by your new career " or instead of saying i feel insecure that youll leave me once youve got your new career and new job .. you might want a new man too" 
Most men arent good at communicating and expressing their emotions but it sounds like hes jealous and insecure.
