How come we only get 2 scans for pregnancy ?

You get one at 12 weeks and one at 20 weeks .. Surely they should do more then 2 to keep an eye on the baby

All doctors are different! Mine gives me one everytime we go in! For everyone saying that it will negatively effect my baby, I'm sure my doctor wouldn't do anything to put me and my baby in danger.

2 is normal. Frankly too many can affect the baby negatively, same with using a Doppler too often. If you're baby looks fine in those two ultrasounds there is not a necessity to actually see the baby anymore.  That's why they just listen to the heartbeat each week. Unless you're high risk there isn't a need.

I'm at just under 22 weeks and have had three ultrasounds - the first to make sure that we had a kiddo in there (my medical history includes a complete molar pregnancy), the second as part of the genetic screening, and the third a week and a half ago for development checking and gender discovery. It all depends on your doctor, your history, and where you live.

If there is no medical reason to they wont also it depends on how many your insurance will allow if you want more scans you will more than likely have to go to a place like metro imaging and pay for them

Like me im high risk due to my son being preemie so i get scans every 2-3 weeks they check everything through regular u/s then they do a vaginal one to check my cervix im also on state medicaid so i have to get prior approval for everything even my weekly shots that get mailed to me

If you've had previous or current pregnancy complications then your doctor will do more scans to make sure you & baby are okay..

I have had 3, one at 8 weeks to confirm viability, I had previous miscarriage, one at 19 weeks for anatomy scan and due to a finding on anatomy scan I had to have another one at 20 weeks. Our little boy has a cleft lip unknown, possibly palate they can't get a good enough picture I have to go back again at 28 weeks for a 3D ultrasound. I would encourage you that only having to have 2 is a gift, you can always pay to have more ultrasounds down if you would like. I have to say during the extra ones I have cried because I love him but these are not joyful scans they are diagnostic and done because something is wrong.

At my 20 week they didn't give me any pictures , I thought there would be more ultrasounds. I'm pretty bummed I only have pictures from the 11 week u/s :(
