Will having a bath slow down contractions!?

Question

Might be a silly question but I'm actually getting mixed results online and talking to people.. I want to have a bath as seem to be having contractions every 3 hours at the moment but obviously don't want them to slow down!

Had a bloody show this morning so hope this means things are starting as I'm 40+1

From the research I've read, a bath can slow down contractions if you are in early labor (less than 5cm dilated). If you are in active labor (5 cm or more) it will help you along. Showers seem to have no effect on your contractions, though they do help with pain.

They say if you take a bath n the contractions slow down then they are the real deal but then again this past weekend I did just that with my contractions continuing for them to stop 2 hours later. Quite frustrating to get up to 2 minutes apart n them go away! Good luck I hope it's baby time for you❤❤

It honestly depends on the pregnancy. So people find it relaxes them which in turn helps the contractions speed up. Others find that the water can slow it down  you need to just give it a go and see what it does for you.

With my last pregnancy I went to the hospital having contractions but wasn't dilated so they told me to go home and take a bath. I sat in the tub for about 30 min and felt great then as soon as I got out full on contractions started! So for me it finally got things going.

Should be fine if bath isn't too hot. But a nice warm bath will actually help with the pain of contractions and may also help you progress. It shouldn't show them down tho.

I was told that if they are "real labor" contractions nothing will stop them.  My dr recommends that if your having "contractions" drink something cold, lay down or take a warm bath/shower. If they stop then it isn't labor.
