Testing question?

Hi all, just wanted to get your thoughts on the following.... I am 36 years old but overall healthy person with no known prior illnesses and no family history of serious illness and currently 17wks preg. I have done 2 ultrasounds at 10wk and 16wk both came out normal. My next appt is at 20wk for another scan. My question is - is it necessary to do the genetic testing if I'm low risk and have had 2 normal ultrasounds because of my age? My doc thinks I don't need it but I'm worried :( thank you

Anything non invasive or zero risk that makes you worry less is good in my book.

I'm 39, first/natural pregnancy, 16+WK and both my husband and I did genetics testing. Age does not alter your genetic make up, it's more informational/educational. We just wanted to know what to look out for when our daughter arrived. They test for 300+ topics on each of us. We found one, nothing serious, but we are happy to be informed.

In Norway you're not even considered advanced maternal age. If the peace of mind you might get from doing the tests isn't important to you, don't do it

My SO has an unusual genetic disease that is slightly more common where he's from, but even there the chances of having it is like winning the lottery. It's even more rare in the rest of the world, but we chose to have the test just because we wanted to not be surprised. It was of course negative but I'm still glad we did it in our case.
