Natural birth!?

So I am almost 21 weeks so I know I have some time to decide. When I first found out I was pregnant I was so set on having that epidural because of the fear of giving birth but the closer I get the less scared I am and I have been doing some research and reading people's thoughts and I think natural will be the best for me! What are your pros and cons!? What are the benefits of natural vs medicated? Tell me your experiences? (:

I'm open for every option. Natural, epidural, c section what ever doc or midwife say. My goal is to provide safe birth for my baby.

Pain meds, though only slightly, increase the risk of complications/csection. Sometimes they are needed to help mom rest in a long labor. But it is totally possible to have a pleasant natural birth. Look into hypnobirthing and hiring a doula.

I was dead set on going through labor without pain medication. I gave birth to my first 9 years ago and opted for an epidural towards the end of labor and regretted it as I felt if I was more educated I could've delivered effectively without it. I was mentally prepared this time around but my contractions were so close together and so strong I couldn't catch my breath. Maybe it has to do with my age as well (36) but I could not handle the pain as well as I did with my first and elected to have the epidural shortly after going to the delivery room. At first I was a little disappointed but once I had relief I was able ro relax and enjoy the birthing experience. The pain was very overpowering for me, to the point where I couldn't concentrate on the baby. The epidural helped me to be able to focus on delivering my baby. I was still able to feel contractions and knew when I should push, I just wasn't in near unbearable pain. Also I didn't suffer any negative side effects from the epidural. It was a great experience for me. Every birth is different, just do whats best for you and baby. Best wishes to you!

I would recommend not deciding what kind of birth you will have until you are in labor bc you never know how you will handle things until you experience them. I had an unmedicated birth and, honestly, pain medication never even crossed my mind bc I was able to work through my contractions so well. It was painful and intense, yes, but I didn't find it unbearable.

I've done both and can tell you from my experience that natural was far better than my epidural birth. With the epidural I had to have forceps, and ended up with a 3rd degree tear, my most recent birth I had no pain relief and no tearing or stitches at all. I also agree don't be scared of labour - it is actually a lovely (albeit painful) experience

I was going to put this in the reply to my first comment but i couldn't put a picture. This is me using hypnobirthing through the transition stage, the most intwmse part of labor. Everyone in the room thought I was sleeping. Anytime someone would speak to me and distracted me from the hypnobirthing the pain would come back. When I was using it though, it was very manageable.

I've had 3 babies and all were natural, no pain relief and I'd do it a million times over, my sister had an epidural 5 years ago and since then has suffered with back pain

There is absolutely no reason to be afraid of birth. It is what your body knows how to do.
