breast feeding on demand?

Breast feeding on demand? How do you guys feel about it? At first I thought it was okay but LO was attached to me all day long. Am worried about when I have to go back to work so I'm trying to adjust her to a feed/sleep schedule as recommended in the book "Blissful baby expert."

I love breastfeeding but I can't live life with my baby hanging from my boob all day long.

I don't know how old your LO is but I'm going to assume a newborn. Breastfeeding on demand is very important in the beginning to establishing a good milk supply. It gets easier though. As the weeks go by, babies get stronger and can get more milk out during a feeding. Also, their stomachs get bigger and they can eat more thus keeping them fuller longer. By 6 weeks I noticed a difference between the length of time my LO could go between feedings and breastfeeding got a lot easier. By 3 months we started the Eat - Play - Sleep routine and feedings spread out even more.

Just make sure you are giving your LO adequate time to feed because your LO may still be slow to transfer milk.

It's only temporary.

I have fed on demand since day one. My son is 6 months old and was always a snacker I guess you could say he would only nurse 5-10 min at a time but feed every 1-3 hours. But lately I have noticed he will feed 10-20 min and is now feeding every 3-4 hours. I truly believe that baby will start to get themselves on a feeding schedule that works best for them.

I let my son feed on demand. Both my husband and I have food issues (both over eat but have been working on it) and so I never wanted to force my children to eat. He's 19 months now and even with food if he says he's hungry I let him eat if he says he full he's done. I'm not a short order cook and he eats what we eat but I let him choose. When he was a new born he ate so often but was able to get himself onto a good routine all on his own.

As they said the baby kind of gets in a 3 hour schedule tupically on their own.  I have used an approach from the Babywise book by Ezzo.  It helps  with establishing eat/wake/ sleep patterns so they sleep at night better which helps with the feeding. Mine is 3 WO now and generally eats every 3 hrs during the day and goes about 5 at night.  However sometimes during the day or during a growth spurt he gets fussy after 2 or 2.5 hours....after I check other things if he's still fussy, then I feed him...but it's not my "automatic" to just feed him if he cries. That's what helps to establish the schedule.  I did this with my first and he was sleeping 12 hrs a night by 10 weeks and eating well and I was able to go back to work no problem.  Good luck! 😊

I breastfeed on demand and my baby asks to eat at 3 hour intervals unless she is expirencing a growth spurt.

I think it depends on the baby and the mom. Mind you, I'm also Canadian so I get a year off maternity.

I use child lead weaning methods. My baby made the schedule she's on I have just continued to enforce it. Forcing a schedule works for some babies but most will have a difficult transition.
