Has anyone ever given birth before reaching the hospital?

I'll be having my baby in the dead of winter in Wisconsin and have an hour drive up to the hospital which will take much longer if there is a storm... I was just curious if anybody ever gave birth at home or in the car? I'm not freaking out..just thought it'd be cool to hear some stories. Do they teach you what to do if this would occur?

I've heard some stories about this happening and that the couple was talked through how to deliver the baby after calling 911. I'm certain not knowing can be quite scary. Maybe look up what you could use for an emergency kit to keep in the car or house should it come down to it.

I live in Wisconsin and due October 22nd. I'm more concerned about being stuck in beltline traffic (Madison, WI) with road construction than weather. I also live an hour away from hospital! I have very bad luck so i fear I will give birth in my car😞 Good luck to you!

You don't have to do much. While the baby is coming out they say pretty much hands off. So basically you just pick up the baby. The ones that come in the car are usually the really healthy ready to be born ones or they would have waited another hour :) sometimes they'll tell you to tie the umbilical cord with a shoelace but generally you just leave well enough alone and baby does his thing.

I was almost born in my parents living room, they called 911 & an ambulance came to get my mom, I ended up being delivered by the side of road on the freeway on the way to the hospital, my parents had the help of an EMT so not quite the same as delivering on your own but still it was different than births of my 2 older sisters, she had epidurals  w/ those!

I would try to get a hotel or something closer to your due date, especially if the weather is bad (or will get bad around the due date!) just to be safe. But if that's not an option I truly hope the best for you! I'm sure it would be nerve racking 😖
