Competitive friend (long rant)

So i was just wondering if anyone else has ever had a friend like this...

I have a friend who is constantly trying to compete with me. We've been friends for 5-6 years and ever since the past 4 years she started always trying to compete with me and "one-up" me.

For example, if i was taking a higher class than her she would either switch to the same class, try to get a higher grade than me in her class, or just talk down and make me feel like the class im taking is "unnecessary". She would say things like "wow i could never do that, i need to keep my grades high" or "i like my class, challenging and useful. I wouldn't need your class. Good luck.."

Another example, its small, but it had to do with our driver's licenses a while ago. She knew that i was really excited to get my permit then eventually my license (my parents are divorced and live in 2 cities so it would make it easier to see both if i had my license instead of them driving me back and forth) while she had no interest in rushing that. I failed the permit test the first time and waited about 6 months before retaking it. A month after i failed it she suddenly wanted to take hers and got her permit. Never drove with it though, just used it to brag really. Then when i finally got my permit she asked when i was going to get my license and i said may (a year from when i got my permit). In march she scheduled to get her license just so she could get it before me.

I'm not the only friend she does this to though (in case you think im just crazy lol). We have another friend (we were all a circle of 3 friends at one point) and my other friend complains of the same thing, that friend #1 competes.

Its honestly mainly with school. Friend #2 and i both want to go into the medical field (me premed and her nursing) and friend #1 wants to be a teacher - completely different fields. But yet she still insists on competing with us with grades, number of classes, difficulty of classes, etc.

Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone have any advice/opinions/comments?
