What happens to your vagina after you give birth?

Does it stay looser forever after - even just a little bit?

Does it rip?

Is it true, that they need to be repaired/sowed up after- quite commonly, too?

Answer

The vagina is muscular, so it is meant to widen and contract. It will return to normal after birth. There should be no "looseness" to it. Some women do experience tearing or ripping of the vagina externally while pushing the baby out. This can be because the baby's head is larger than the vaginal opening could stretch, or because the tissue didn't thin out like it was supposed to (sometimes this happens in women who are induced because the body went into labor quicker than it was able to prepare the vagina for the descent of the fetus). Most women do not experience extremely bad tearing, but if they do, it will be closed using sutures and heals quickly. Usually in 4-6 weeks the area is fully healed depending on the severity of the laceration.

Mine is back to very tight some time too much do keegles and walk alot that is how I lost my baby wright and I gained 90 lbs omg I was like what do you mean the baby is 7 lbs it shd be 80 lol but no babe work on yourself asap and you will snap back

I ripped when I gave birth, had a ton of stitches but I'm not any looser than I was before I gave birth. You heal very well after birth

I had third and fourth degree tears, but I had an epidural, and they had me purple pushing. I healed up easily, and was actually tighter after I gave birth.
