allowing family to stay with you after delivery?

Hi ladies, Congrats to all of you!! I'm not sure if this is the right group to direct my question to, but I believe it is! 
My In-laws live on the east coast and my husband and I are in CA.  I of course want them to come to town and be there for the birth of the baby (their first grandchild).  I'm just not sure if they should stay at our house or maybe a hotel nearby.  
Did you have a close family member stay with you the first couple of nights and found it helpful or did it only take away from your hubs and you having quality time with the baby?  Just want to hear your experiences.  Anyone planning one way or another?  Thanks!

My mom is coming to visit 3 weeks after the babies are born and then staying with me for a few weeks to help and get to know the babies. It's important to my husband and I to have space for the first few weeks, and then we are happy to accept the help. It's totally up to you though.

I have no experience in this but I've been told by many people that I should grab any opportunity for help, specially in the first few weeks until you and the baby adjust a sleep schedule. I live with my in laws and they've been nothing but useless with helping me through this pregnancy. I suffered from hypermesis and still throwing up at 30wks so I've arranged to stay over at my older sister (who offered) for a few weeks so she can help with getting used to having a baby. If they're nice people and u guys get along, jump on that opportunity and take all the help u can get!

I had my mom stay and no it did not take away anything . In fact I think it saved our sanity. You're so exhausted when you come home from the hospital and still healing. It's nice to have someone take care of you and help out. Even with my mom there I was still exhausted because I was learning to breastfeed and up all the time. My hubby walk me up to BF our third night home and I was hallucinating, I had no idea where I was for a good ten minutes lol. So yes ladies I am all for getting all the help you can get cuz 1) you deserve it 2) you need to rest and heal and 3) it helps with post partum depression having someone there, other than SO to give a helping hand.

My mom will be coming two weeks before I give birth and will stay a week after! My dad and sister will be coming and staying when he's born for a week as well. We live in Hawaii and they live in South Dakota. We are not having my inlaws come because of issues with them and I'd feel much more comfortable asking my mom for help with breastfeeding and with anything else I need. My husband and I are going to make sure we get time alone after they leave to get into a routine and make sure we can handle everything before he goes to work. But hopefully having my mother and father here will let us get a little rest after delivery so we can be ready to take on parenthood! I'd say get as much help as you can when you can :))

My mother lives with us.  I'm pregnant with my 5th.   So nice to have her around.   She will be helping with my other 4.  Husband will help with the baby so I can get some rest and recover.   Like with the rest are saying.. get all the help u can get.

My inlaws are coming about 3 weeks after she's born. Husbands younger brother has school until winter break so they will be coming a little after the birth, and will be staying with us. Since we have a spare bedroom. I think it will be nice to have people around to help with the baby, because by then husband will be back at work. Not sure what I'm supossed to do to entertain them for 10 days but oh well! I'll figure something out

My family is coming up for the birth but will not be staying with us. I feel like after the birth is an important time for us to adapt as three instead of two, hence no one is allowed to stay at our house.

My family stayed in a hotel close by. It was nice to have the house to ourselves as I had an emergency cesarean and needed to rest. Plus having time to establish breastfeeding was awesome.

My husbands whole family (adult brothers, sister, parents) is coming for a month when the baby arrives. They were initially going to stay with us but they booked such a long stay (I had given them a window of time but they added a week on one end and 10 days on the other) that I didn't think I could do it! It was hard, but we asked them to find a place to stay elsewhere. That was one of the hardest decisions we have had to make as a couple!

Both my and my husband's parents are about a 10-hour drive from us. My in laws have stayed with us for visits in the past and they seriously drive me nuts (esp my MIL😳) in large doses. Never again! We really don't have the extra space in our apartment to make it a "non-invasive" stay (lol) and I know I'm def going to want my space and privacy when baby gets here. I WILL want my mother--whom I'm very close with--to stay with me, so she gets first dibs anyway👍
