Single...but... Exclusive? Help!

Hey ladies!

I've been single for 2 weeks out of being in a 2 year relationship and a 5 year relationship before that. There is a guy who likes me... We've hung out everyday, not had sex yet, he started trying to move too quickly and then said we just needed to be friends and I needed to be single for a while... I AGREED but then he started calling me pet names, calling me every night, and he asked me out on a date... The night before our first date I'm single, right? So I decide to have casual sex with a good friend of mine that I've known for years.

The guy I was supposed to go out with the next night knew about it and flipped out on me asking me how I could do such a thing when we were going out on our first date the next night, and called off the date. He did not understand how we weren't exclusive when we hang out daily, make out, and have a first date planned.

Also, red flag. He said "if I'm supposed to spend the rest of my life with you I need to trust you..." My eyes got huge out of shock and he said "well, not the rest of my life, I just meant however long the relationship would be if we were to date." Its been two weeks and he said he's fallen for me. He's planning on taking me on a date in the next few days.

Am I the one in the wrong or is he kind of crazy? How do I proceed from here? I do have feelings for him but I also want to be single for a while considering I've been in a relationship so long.
