How did you provide alcohol at your wedding reception?

Did you get kegs, buy all of the alcohol yourself, make jugs of mixed drinks, hire a bartender, etc. I'm stuck on what to do about providing alcohol for my wedding reception in 4 weeks. We're getting some kegs of beer. But for mixed drinks Idk if I should just make drink dispensers filled with certain mixed drinks, buy alcohol and people can mix their own, or what? Idk what to do. Help! What did you do?

We did beer and wine to prevent some of our alcoholic family members from getting too crazy. Bartenders were required because it was a venue. I probably wouldn't allow people to mix their own drinks.

We did ours in our own backyard so there was no law against getting totally wasted. We hired a bus to bring back the family to their motel and the rest of the crew stayed up jamming loudly (we live in the country and made sure we invited the only neighbors we had). I think I spent like 500$ on champagne  (not bubbly wine) because you really want to be classy, and asked everyone to bring their own drinks also, which ended up being a mountain. I got a deal from the liquor agent and managed to have about 1 bottle per guest but they didn't drink all of them... we had enough alcohol to continue partying for 5 days.

We spent most of our money hiring a really good chef that brought his own kitchen stuff to our house and his kitchen boys to help and clean up. We also prepared some canapés to eat before the main meal. That way there was no clean up to do the next day. It was really fancy stuff that we would have never been able to afford at a venue.

We had ours at a party venue, so it was all taken care of with a bartender. If you're having a casual wedding, legs, bottles of wine, and mAybe a few mixed drinks for serve yourself is great. If you're planning something more formal, hire a bartender. That's my opinion.

We only did beer and wine (bottled beers), but no mixed drinks. It made it easier for folks to not get completely trashed. No complaints though. It was free for them, after all.

If you really want mixed drinks, I'd perhaps choose a couple of specific cocktails (like yours and your fiancé's favorites), and premix them. Then you don't need a fully-stocked bar.

The venue I was at required all the drinks to be served by a liscenced bartender. So we only did a couple kegs and some wine. People go too crazy on the hard stuff and since I was a ways out for most of my family to drive I didn't think it was a good idea to have the hard stuff.  I'd check with your venue first and find out what kind of liability you have before deciding.

We just did kegs and wine and one signature drink! And yea I definitely don't recommend letting people pour their own- you will run out much quicker! We were required to have a bartender but I definitely am glad we did!

It depends on the venue. A lot of them do not allow you to bring your own alcohol. If you can buy your own, hire a bartender. They should be able to tell you what and how much alcohol to buy based on the number of guests.

Our venue comes with the bartender and 1 hour of open bar, if it wasn't included in the package I would've either provided a few options or hired a bartender.

I'd say def don't have people mix their own. If you can afford to hire a licensed bartender you should do that for liability purposes.
