Help?! Dilated!!

Sorry I post so much buuuuutttt-- yesterday (Tuesday) I went to my 38 week appointment and she checked my cervix. She said I was 2cm dilated & 50% effaced. What does this mean? I asked her but she didn't explain very well. I know it doesn't mean I'll go into labor like, tomorrow or anything but do you think I'll make it to my due date? (Oct 18). Does it mean labor is coming soon? Sorry for all the questions. I'm not having any leaking of fluid or anything & I average maybe 2 contractions a day, other days more but nothing crazy. I was just curious as this stuff is kind of confusing to me.

It can be hours to days to weeks still. Just depends on your body. At 36 & 37 weeks I was 1cm and 50% effaced at 38 weeks I was 3cm and 50% and my 39 week appointment I was 4cm and 50% effaced. That was Friday and I'm still walking around pregnant. I go back in Thursday so we will see where I'm at then. The way I look at it is once I finally go into labor I've got a lot of the work done. Only have to dilate 6 more cm and just need to thin out more.

I was 2 and 50% well over a week. Ended up losing a ton of mucus Monday throughout day, but had a secheduled section yesterday, so I don't know what I was when I came in. Mygood  friend just delivered at 41w+ and she was 1 and 50% for a LONG time. From what I gather, if you don't progress it can stay like that for weeks.

Depends what your body does - you can make it to ur due date, you could go over due or you could go early - no real way to tell just means your cervix is favourable and softening etc

Unfortunately it doesn't mean much...just means you've starting progressing towards the end result, though it is no indication of when that will be. Everyone is different. I'm due today, have been dilatated to 1, 100% effaced for a couple weeks, lost my mucus plug 2 weeks ago as well. I have a Dr appointment tomorrow and hopefully I've dilated more!
