so what exactly does it mean to drop?

I've seen posts where moms upload "dropped" and I can clearly see their stomach looks like the baby moved down lower but what does that mean? Due anytime now? Or?

Answer

Means the baby moved down from where it's been sitting (pushing up against ur rib cage), down to ur pelvic bone.
By 38 weeks, usually, ur pelvis is widen and baby's had is down, ready and in position . After u dropped,  u can usually breathe lots easier,  but now u feel lime baby about to drop on the floor.  However,  that doesn't mean baby is about to come any time soon. 
My last obgyn visit was last week at 38 weeks and my daughter's head was soooo low and pushing on my cervix,  that they could not see half her head on ultrasound...here I am a week later 39 weeks and I'm not dilated even an inch....

Yes - it means the baby has started to move into position down in the pelvis to move into th birth canal.  I don't think it means labour is going to happen necessarily in the next day or two but things are definitely getting ready.
Having the baby's head down there like that can help start dilation if it hasn't already started.

That's what it means but it doesn't mean baby is coming anytime soon. Some women, like myself, dont drop until your pushing
