first baby, midwifing it! how about you?

So my honey and I decided to try for a natural water birth in our home. We met with our midwife today for a free consult and I'll have to be honest- it made me feel really nervous. She's an older woman and very sweet and has helped SO MANY women. I'm sure I'll feel less anxious after we get a few prenatal visits in. Has anyone here used a midwife? What was your experience?
