Formula and breastmilk ?

Have any of u ladies gave both to ur baby? I want to give mine JUST breastmilk , but im not producing enough for her. She now eats 3 ounces and i can barely pump 2 ounces each boob. Baby doesnt latch on and im taking lactation cookies and drinking a fenugreek+blessed thistle drink mix but only helped a little. ( i was producing 1 ounce before ) . So im starting to wonder if i should just give her both, formula and breastmilk. Im upset that i cant produce enough for her to just be breastfed :(

Supplementing is fine, until you start producing enough for her.

I've been giving both breastmilk and formula since week 7 or 8. Keep in mind that every bottle of formula you offer, your milk supply will decrease unless you pump every time you offer formula to keep signalling your body to make more milk. I got some bad advice and took a major hit to my supply. If you can find it, get yourself some brewer's yeast and incorporate it into your diet...it's done the best job of helping me maintain my supply at 6 months PP. Good luck mama! And as most people will tell you, fed is best. So if things dont work out the way you hoped, be gentle with yourself and know that formula is a very fortunate safety net.

I wasn't producing enough but continued to pump and supplement with enfamil. My motto Is baby has to eat! So I did every other feeding with formula.

Try finding a lactation consultant to help with the latch.  Having your baby nurse is the best way to boost your supply. In the meantime do what you need to in order to feed your child!

Is she seeming satisfied after you feed her? If she seems satisfied then she is getting enough milk. If she seems unsatisfied and like she needs more food after a feeding, then yes, you probably have a supply issue.  I was never able to pump very much but my babies alway got enough straight from the breast. Sometimes our body just regulates our milk so well to what our child is eating that there just isn't a lot of extra.

You can definitely do both my son is going to be a month tomorrow and I've been giving him both since he was 2 weeks old it will definitely help you produce more milk. I tend to give my son formula during the day. Mornings and nights I give him the Brest. That give my breast all day to relax and produce milk by the time it hits night my breast are full and ready for him. Just keep drinking a lot of fluids during the day
