Starting Baby Oatmeal for our 4 Month old?

Hello mamas!

My LO dr said she thinks he is ready to start solids. She said to start with baby oatmeal and gradually introduce veggies in a month. I was planning on doing Baby LED Weaning for food but also wanted to get opinions on baby oatmeal and if it's a good/bad idea!? FTM so please be kind.

Also, he is EBF and has never had anything but BM. He is grabbing at our foods and moves his mouth while we eat 😂

What brand of cereal and in bottle or bowl with spoon?

I started my daughter with Gerber Rice cereal mixed with breasts milk at about 4.5months. I would give it to her in a bowl and she enjoyed it, Then I started with some veggies. She had bad reflux so her doc suggested it. She was still ebf but had a small bowl in the mornings. I would put a little in at night if she had pumped milk. Once they show interest is honestly when it's ok. She's your baby, if she looks like she wants something else then go for it! I didn't use oatmeal until she was 6+months though. It's harder on their tummy to digest. You can always try a veggie or fruit mixed with a little rice. Its totally up to you💖

The American Association of pediatrics and the World Health Organization recommend no solids before six months. Sadly some Dr's give outdated information. When you do introduce solids it should be offered after nursing, as they can't get all the nutrients they need from solids and need bm or formula until 12 months.

FTM here too. Our doc told us to start cereal at 4 months to help get them acquainted with texture and learning to eat from a spoon. It really has little to no nutritional value so you shouldn't replace meals with it. We mix it with pumped breastmilk and give with a bottle as well for the last feeding before bedtime. Our LO loves his cereal and now is showing a lot of interest in our food. It is going to be hard to keep him satisfied another month prior to starting other foods (6 months is what our doc told us)!

I started my son on oatmeal cereal at 3.5 months. He loves it. He now eats veggies, loves them and hates all the fruits I've tried him on. The cereal is still his fav food. He's now 4.5 months. Only veggies and fruits he's tried are the beginner ones. Like beans, squash, sweet potatoes, peas, carrots, banana (hates them), apples (hates it) and peaches (hates it). Usually babies prefer fruit but nope. Not mine haha

Im a first time mom too & I haven't gotten her any cereals. At 3 months I started giving her tastes of fruit. She really seems to love it. I don't think cereals are quite as tasty , so I'm not going to try it until she's 6 months.
