Friends with benefits?

So there's a guy I've been friends with about 4 years I really like him and wish we could date. But he isn't ready for a relationship (he got out of a long relationship about a year ago). But recently we started hanging out more and even cuddling. And then he kissed me and we started doing more. So I asked if that means we're dating and he still isn't ready. Do you think I should do the whole friends with benefits thing? Or tell him no to anything else until if we date?
