Long story but I loved reading all of the other mom's stories on here & I would also like to share to hopefully save another mother from the type of experience I endured.. This was my 3rd pregnancy yet I had never heard of preeclampsia.. the worst experience ever that almost took my life & my baby girl's.. it all started the wk of sept 12th.. At my regular ck up I mentioned my painfully swelling feet (since I never experienced that with my other 3) but my OB wasn't worried said it was normal.. so I brushed it off.. later that week on Friday the 16th my friend (Alli) stopped by to ck on me.. she's an RN & immediately noticed the swelling in my face & lips.. she took my blood pressure which was high.. 155/88 & insisted that I go get monitor at the hospital.. so i did.. I tested positive for protein in my urine & my BP took about 3 hours to come down enough for them to feel comfortable sending me home.. with orders to stay in bed & follow up with my OB on Monday.. when I called my OB's office on Monday a nurse for one of the other doctor's at the practice called me back & told me to just keep my already scheduled appointment the following Monday.. so I trusted that it must not be too serious & I continued on bedrest all week yet I continued feeling worse & worse every day.. by Sunday the 25th I had lost hearing in my right ear & most of the vision in my right eye.. I was seeing spots & swelling at a rate of 1.25 lbs per day.. so I went back to the hospital.. once again high BP & protein in my urine.. so they did blood work sending me home since my scheduled appointment was the next day.. I went to my OB on Monday the 26th of course protein in my urine & high BP.. she acted as if she hadn't been informed of either one of my Labor & Delivery hospital visits.. & she told me to go see my PCP about my ear because if was probably an ear infection & sent me home to do a 24 hour urine & to come back on Wednesday (my PCP said he was 90% sure my ear & vision issues were from all of the swelling b/c i had no infection & he was extremely concerned about my BP)..I only had 500ml of urine out put in 24 hours & the lab tech & my nurse were extremely alarmed.. my nurse called the doctor right then & my doctor responded with "we need to keep her pregnant until 37 wks" they called me the next day when the blood work & urine results came back & officially diagnosed me with preeclampsia.. yet she still just wanted me to follow up the following Monday to do a NST on baby.. by the time Monday October 3rd got here I felt so ill.. I had gained 35 lbs of swelling in 3 wks & felt so sick I could barely hold my head up.. when I got there for the NST my BP was up to 165 / 110 & i not only had +4 protein in my urine.. I also now had blood.. FINALLY she made the decision to transfer me to another hospital (which is when I learned the reason she was trying to keep me pregnant until 37 weeks was b/c they aren't allowed to induce before then at that hospital) i got to the other hospital at 11:30 am they immediately started giving me magnesium (worse stuff ever) steroids, antibiotics & pitosin.. My cervix was completely closed & thick so labor progressed rather slowly.. with all of the meds & IV fluids being pumped into me & very lil out put of urine.. my husband said it looked like they hooked a water hoes up to me & filled me like a balloon.. my eyes would barely even open due to the swelling.. I slept off & on throughout the night in between the BP cks & epidural.. then at 7:50 am the doctor came in & checked me.. i was at 6 cm so he broke my water & place a heart monitor on her head.. about the time him & the nurse walked out the door i looked at Alli & told her to go get them b/c i felt her head come down.. first she thought I was joking.. the nurse came in & pulled my sheets back & said omg! Don't laugh, don't move, don't talk, don't even breathe & definitely don't push!! She opens the door & tells the doctor.. next thing i know the room is full of people scrambling to get everything setup.. 1 contraction & 2 pushes she was born.. 5 lbs 10oz & came out crying which was such a relief!! Then the doctor showed me the placenta & where it had already started detaching & the severity of the situation really hit hard... it took me a couple days to come out of the magnesium coma & it took 4 days for her mag levels to come down enough for her to start eating.. then of course they started her feedings out with the NG tube only for the first couple days.. & then finally allowed me to hold & feed her 2 bottles a day.. now we're up to every other feeding.. she's doing perfect besides just not wanting to eat every 2.5 - 3 hours.. she has the suck, swallow & breathe down.. but she has to bottle feed every bottle, every 3 hours for 48 hours before they will remove the tube & she can come home.. feels unrealistic, like it will be forever & it breaks my heart..
