Born at 38 weeks 1 day! Birth story!
At 530 am on October 10th 2016 I woke up to low pelvic cramping and some mild low back pain. I got up and thought I might have diarrhea. After 30 mins of the toilet and nothing happening I went back to bed. I woke up every 7 to 15 minutes with the pain but they didn't last long. At 8 am I woke up and the pain was more intense. I started to time them. They were coming every 3 to 5 minutes. At this point they last 30 to 45 seconds. By 9 am I began to feel a lot of pressure with the pain. I told my dh to give the hospital a call. After speaking with them, they urged me to come in and get checked. I figured I had a lot of time because I could still walk and talk. I took a shower, packed the hospital bag, my dh took a shower and I got my daughter (age 6) dressed and fed. We packed some toys and tablet for her. We got to the hospital at 10 am. I was checked in and we waited 10 minutes for the Dr to check me. She smiled and said 'very promising'. I remember saying in my head 'pfft yea right... im probably only 3 cm at max. It hasn't been that long.' She asked if her student could check me, I told her yes. Then she told the nurse to get a wheelchair- I was headed to labour and delivery. She said 'you are 6 cm! We are having a baby today!!!'
Once in my room, they hooked up the monitor and told me contractions were coming every 2 to 4 minutes. I got the epidural- took an hour because apparently my lower spine is curved to the left. Felt relief instantly. We called my brother, sister, my father and father in law. My brother and his girlfriend showed up first at 12 pm. At 1210 pm the Dr checked me again. I was 7 cm. My sister arrived at 1 pm. My father arrived with step mom around 2 pm. My father in law arrived at 230 pm. I was checked again and was still 7 cm. They began a drip. I was checked again at 410 pm. I was 10 cm and ready to push! The epidural began to wear off. They said I could press the button to get more or use the pain to push. I used the pain to push. Baby boy arrived at 427 pm! The cord was wrapped twice around his neck. I received 2 stitches.
My husband was in awe of it all. Just stunned with everything and how quick it was! I was surprised to of course!
Welcome baby Damian 7 lbs 7 Oz! So in love!
