late ultrasounds?

I'm on tricare (military) stationed in Hawaii now. With my son I had my first ultrasound at 11 weeks in Germany. Here they tell me don't expect one till 20 weeks and a second at like 32 weeks and that's it... that doesn't seem right to me at all. I had my first appointment this month and no ultrasound. Second appointment is November 2 and they said heart beat but no ultrasound. Just seems ridiculous, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm considered high risk because of multiple complications from my first born. So can anyone else please tell me does 20 weeks seem way to far off for my first ultrasound?

I'm tricare prime and I had a scan at 11 weeks with my first son. My second pregnancy had a 8 week ultrasound scheduled. This one has a 10 week scheduled. That doesn't sound right, everyone I know has had the same thing as me as well.

In Norway it's also only one ultrasound around w18-20. And then nothing more. I booked a private ultrasound in 10 days, at 12 weeks just to make sure everything is ok before we announce. I tried to book it sooner, but it was 1 month waiting time.

That does seem really far off. Not sure about the military medical but I had 3 ultrasounds before 20 weeks and I was low risk

I have tri care & have already had 2 ultrasounds & im only 10 weeks. So it must be doc preference

I have tricare and live in Arizona. I had scan at 7w and was approved for nt scan at 12 weeks, then have the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. Not sure if any after that.

In Finland we have only two ultrasounds: first one at 12 weeks, second at 22 weeks. I just heard that I will get a third one at 36 weeks, because I had complications with my first born and needed a c-section. I don't think scanning at every appointment is necessary (they listen the heartbeats at every appoinment from 13 weeks on) but I know how lovely and soothing it is to see your baby on that monitor! Hang in there!

i'm on tricare and i live in colorado springs and they give me an ultrasound every 6 weeks. have you questioned why? because after the 10 week mark of it "actually" being a life they should be having visits every 6 then on the 21 week for an anatomy exam for the baby. i would definitely question that.

What type of tricare coverage do you have I switched to standard because military doctors where terrible in my experience now I go to civilian doctors and only pay co pay my delivery will only cost 25$ I'm 9 weeks and had 2 ultrasound already

So with my first it was the exact same way. They believe that the least amount of ultrasounds they can give you the better because they are unsure of the affects it has on the baby. With my second I still had Tricare and I had a lot more ultrasounds because my baby was high risk. It all depends on the situation. If you feel like you need more reassurance you might look into getting a fetal Doppler.

In Michigan they won't do an ultrasound until 18-20 weeks & wont do another till later. Totally normal.. all depends on the doc
