First visit to OBGYN. What happens?

I'll be 10 weeks going to the OBGYN and I have no idea what to expect. What is the appointment like? What all will be check, poked, and prodded?

Answer

You'll confirm pregnancy via blood or urine. If you haven't had a recent pap, they will perform one.  You'll most likely get a ultrasound to confirm due date, they'll test your blood for iron deficiency and run other tests on it. They may give you a book/binder on what to expect during pregnancy, and a list of safe/unsafe medicine/food.

Detailed health history and history of previous pregnancies, urine and tons of blood samples. A script for prenatals if you don't have them already. Weight and blood pressure. Possibly a scan. They'll answer any questions you have. Possibly talk to you about somethings and what to expect. They'll schedule your next appointment.

My first appointment I was 8 weeks and 4 days. They had me pee in a cup, I heard the heartbeat and got my first ultrasound, talked to someone about any health issues or family health issues. Talked to the doctor for a little bit about any questions I had, got a  bag filled with pamphlets and information. You may have to get a PAP smear, depends on your age. It's the longest appointment you will have during pregnancy, so I've heard. Mine took about two hours. 😊

At my first exam, I had to answer medical history and family questions, then I had a pap smear, and was sent to the lab where I had 8 vials of blood drawn for routine tests. And I was also scheduled for a ultrasound. I was around 11 weeks pregnant at that time.
