Not reeeally baby name stealing..

So my mom told me that her friend's daughter in law just had a baby boy, they named him Sullivan and call him Van for short. I think Van is the cutest thing, but don't like Sullivan - just Van - Is that okay for a first name if it's paired with the middle name Richard? Keep in mind, I've never met this woman whose son is nicknamed this, and they live states away, so I wouldn't say it's "baby name stealing" really. So what do you think about Van Richard S. ? :)
