STM's - bottles at the hospital?

I'm not sure if I'll get much feedback, but I had to ask...

I'm going to be a ftm, due November 11th.  I've never been too keen on the idea of breastfeeding,  but I don't want to rob my son of those nutrients,  so my plan is to pump and bottle feed him.  That way,  my husband can bond with him as much as I do,  which is very important for both of us.

My question is,  can I request to start pumping right away in the hospital and give my son a bottle from the get-go? Or will they make me try to breastfeed first?

The hospital will prob go with whatever you decide. That being said, I hated breast feeding but HATED pumping a million times more. You become a slave to the pump and dad will get more time spent with baby while you are pumping away instead. Just a warning. Do what works for you, but don't be scared of formula. You can still bond with baby and feed baby and he/she will be just as healthy. Pumping can be isolating... I formula fed on baby exclusively and he is and always has been super healthy even without breast milk.

You're only going to be producing colostrum while you're in the hospital, and while you certainly could pump, hand expression may be more effective for you. When your milk starts to come in on day 3-4, that's when you'll need the pump if you want to avoid BFing :)

It's your body and your baby I'm sure you can do whatever makes you happy!! We were given bottles in the hospital ready to use and they were great because my daughter wasn't latching on

I cant imagine they can force you to do anything you dont wanna do. Thwy may push hard towards you trying but its your baby and your body.

They let you do whatever you chose!  They'll even provide the pump!
