Venting about SIL's comments

Jen
My SIL is having her first baby and is due in Feb. I'm having my third and am due in Dec. Since it's her first time she'll ask my opinion or ask me questions about pregnancy and labor, which I am more than happy to share with her. I try not to give too much of my own 2 cents bc I'm sure she gets enough of that. Seems to me, though, that she has her own pre conceived ideas on giving birth and the bottom line is that she seems to be horrified by it from stories she's heard from her mom and other moms. Since I have had good experiences and tried to inform myself as much as possible I try and share and emphasize that positivity with her. Doesn't seem to be working too well though lol
When I told her I'm trying to do without epidural this time she said, "why?! Your mom had it" (my mom went natural once actually). She is terrified of pain. Pretty sure she's going to be a mess when she has her first strong contraction...
When I suggested she watch Business of Being Born and learn about pitocin, c sections, and birthing in general.... "I'm a big baby about that stuff so idk if I can watch stuff like that".
She told me she wants to refuse a catheter for urine even though she wants an epidural, which is fine..you can refuse anything. But it's just comical to me she's more worried about the catheter than she is about a needle and drugs going into her spine. She told me a horror story about a coworker of hers who had a puncture from the catheter...idk how old that lady is but this is pretty rare. I told her since I'm a nurse and have put in numerous catheters myself, this has never happened nor have I ever heard it happening from any of my nurse coworker's and friends. She said she cried for an hour at the thought of having a catheter in her bladder 😑 really??
It's not my baby or my pregnancy but I feel all her negative views and thoughts are really setting herself up for a bad experience already. And it's really hard to bite my tongue sometimes being an experienced mom and being in the medical field. Sorry I just had to vent!! But I think giving birth is such an amazing experience we women are so blessed to have ❤️
