pregnant and breastfeeding?

I fainted at a conference today - my husband and I traveled by plane to learn more about my son's rare, non-hereditary disease.

After I came to, only my pride was hurting! I was so embarrassed and feeling better. EMTs came and loaded me onto a stretcher anyway, insisting they at least take my vitals.

In the back on an ambulance, the EMT asked "How are you feeling? Everything normal? Is it possible you could be pregnant?"

"No, no...I don't think that's possible."

My vitals looked decent and I went back to the hotel to rest, but I was restless. Could I be pregnant?! It took over a year to conceive my son, who is 10 months.

Well, I hit cvs, peed on a stick, and it looks like it could very well be that I am expecting. Holy. Shit.

My question is...can I still breastfeed? I am an exclusive pumper, but I was hoping to make it to a year!

Congrats! I am pregnant and was nursing when I found out. My doctor told me I should wean while pregnant to give my breasts a break, but he didn't seem like it was a rush for me to do so. My daughter self-weaned a few weeks ago, when I was about 10 weeks along. My friend is pregnant and nursing her 10 month old and plans to wean him at 1 year as well (she is due in April). So, in short, you can definitely keep pumping until he's 1! Just start weaning shortly after :) (although you don't have to, some people tandem nurse)

My mother nursed toddlers while pregnant with no issues. We all turned out ok.

Yes you can, don't drop all at once if you decide to wean, do it slowly because weening can cause a drop in your progesterone levels. You may produce less milk but that doesn't happen to everyone. There's a Facebook group called dairy queens it's a breastfeeding support group and they're and excellent resource.

Was wondering the same. My doctor let me know that it would be the hardest on my own body and my nutrients, because I would be feeding one and growing another and my own body may feel the effects but it's always up to you mama! Congratulations!!! Xoxo

Some people are able to but some notice a huge dip in supply. If your baby is 10 months, I'd guess he doesn't need as much milk as a new born so you maybe ok but I'm not talking from personal experience. Good luck either way.

I breastfed no issues until about 16 weeks pregnant. She stopped liking the taste about then as by week 20 it's turned back to colostrum. Supply can be a big issue as there is a noticeable dip when you become pregnant.
