Is anyone having a home birth? I'm considering it.

I want my birth to be very comfortable and personal, but I'm a little worried about the risks.

We will be birthing at home! Statistically, for a normal, healthy and low risk pregnancy, delivering in a hospital actually raises risks to you and the baby. No matter how much you prepare and how firm you are, hospital staff have time and money in mind, and will push you towards interventions. Once you accept one, that one makes another necessary, then another, and another, and next thing you know you've had "necessary" major abdominal surgery, your baby is too groggy to breastfeed, etc., all because of one tiny intervention.

A midwife who performs home births is equipped to handle almost every possible complication that can arise during a low risk and normal birth. Including bleeding to a certain extent, cords around the neck, breech babies, etc. OBs and hospital staff want you at the hospital, and they want you to believe you needed the hospital, etc. so when you have a complication, any complication, even ones that are pretty typical and easy to handle and you were in NO WAY in danger, they create a sense of danger and urgency. Don't let anyone force THEIR fear about birth and distrust of their own bodies onto YOU!

I'm not trying to change your mind about home births but just wanted to you know that the hospital births can often be quite comfortable, especially is your hospital is friendly to natural births. I've had 2 hospital births and the hospital and staff were very friendly towards natural births, providing hot tubs, rocking chairs, yoga balls, even aromatherapy to mothers during birth. My nurses never tried to push any decision or procedure on me and let me have control over my birth. I chose if I wanted my cervix checked or not. I chose if I wanted an IV or not. I chose if I wanted intermittent monitoring. Even when I had to be induced for medical reasons with my 2nd birth, they let me be in control of how much pitocin I wanted and even let me turn it completely off when I wanted to. With my 1st pregnancy, which was a completely healthy and low risk pregnancy, we had complications during labor and if I had not been in a hospital, my daughter would have suffered brain damage or even death without their intervention to stop my contractions. I'm so glad I was in a hospital setting because things went south with my daughter VERY quickly and unexpectedly. Hospitals have come a long way in the last few years and are moving more towards giving laboring mothers a lot of control and being very flexible and non-invasive. Anyway, I just felt like this needed to be said and share my experience.

One of my 3 pregnancies i had an emergency c section, cord was around baby's neck and she went into distress, low risk pregnancy. My friend also had zero complications until she went to push and the placenta spontaneously detached. My sister in law also zero problems with pregnancy and she hemorrhaged and needed a blood transfusion.  Yes they can always transport you to a hospital, but by the time they drive you there,  check you in,  get an OR ready, call a dr and anesthesiologist, prep you for surgery, it's valuable time putting you and baby at risk. The scenarios I gave you are just 3 of hundreds of births between me and my friends, so these things are rare, but they do happen. I hate hospitals and medical intervention in general but I'm glad my ob/surgeon being right there in the room with us when my baby went into distress or she might not have made it. I personally would not risk it even though a home birth would have been more comfortable than at a hospital.

I will be birthing at home in about 5 weeks. I fully trust my midwife who has a paramedic background and can do a lot of first help things just in case. She will have the same equipment as the paramedics too. It just makes sense for me to give birth in a familiar environment with reduced stress and all the time you need, I truly think it helps with a smooth delivery. I could not deal with a rush rush time is money type of hospital !

We're planning a home birth. We delivered our first at the hospital. The hospital midwives are the back-up for our homebirth midwives, so we like them. The hospital is only 10 minutes away. I'm excited.

I wanted to really bad. But die to complications, I cant.

I would just get a good midwife, and discuss your options. I know some of them, will have medical professionals in case of emergency. Have you thought about a birthing center?
