newborn awake at night after feed- put down or stay up with?

My 3 week old typically falls asleep after feeding during the night. Occasionally he's awake, nice and wide eyed. Do you put your baby down and let them try to fall asleep on own? Or make sure they are asleep first? I've been up with him now close to an hour and a half, now with hiccups and it's almost 3am. Would love to hear what you would do.

At 3 weeks is too young to put down to have themselves fall asleep. I'd just try to get him tired. Do a bit of tummy time. Feed and burp then try turning the lights low minimal noise and rock him to sleep

I put down right away...we don't play at night. If they cry I pick them up soothe and as soon as they are soothed I lay them right back down.

Of baby is calm, it's fine to put him down in the crib. He will probably play before falling back to sleep. Try turning on the mobile if you have one so he is occupied. Cry it out isn't recommended before 6 months. You can always continue rocking baby until he falls asleep but I wouldn't chat or play or stimulate him yourself at this point or he will grow up expecting to be play with in the middle of the night.

I don't play or do anything loud. I might hum some songs and rock her in my arms or stroller. I keep lights off and sometimes just hold her and read on my phone.
