Ovulating on the pill?!

Hi everyone,

I started my pill pack one day late this month on accident; I switched period apps and confused my days. I was supposed to start the pill on Friday the 28th but instead started it on Saturday. I took two pills that day to get back on track. 
Because I have obsessive compulsive disorder I tend to need reassurance and feel the need to check everything. So I bought an digital ovulation kit and got a smiley face, which means I'm at "peak fertility."
I'm confused, is it possible that I have ovulated because I started the pill late?

Contrary to popular belief, you still do ovulate while on the pill. I had this same concern and my doctor explained it to me. Your body will release an egg every month but the egg will die in the fallopien tube or be pushed out of the ovary from one of the side walls. Kind of crazy.

What protects you from pregnancy is knowing the egg won't successfully reach your uterus. If it did your pill has made your uterine wall so thin so if an egg is fertilized it will not implant. Also, your vagina mucous (discharge) is thicker so that the sperm can't swim in it and also more acidic so they don't survive as long. Again: kinda crazy.

It can be because you went more than 7 days without hormones and your body withdrew. Don't have sex for 7/14 days. If you started your pack on Saturday instead of Friday there wasn't any need to double up though, I suggest you skip your next break week because you're missing a pill out of the 21.
